Mazuko | Interview & Guest Mix | Eau De Groove | 2pm Weds 13th April

Creative musical mastermind. Tabularasa Director and Vision. Event producer extraordinaire.

Mazuko is known for dexterously crafting musical rollercoasters that project anyone who enters them into a transcendental and conscious state. Spreading his well-travelled wisdom through his extensive deep techno and house repertoire, as well as his exquisite selection of global sounds, it’s a given that Mazuko will take whichever dance-floor he captains for one heck of a ride.  And to match – he has one helluva story…

_________

Perhaps his greatest recent achievement found him as co-founder and creative force behind Subsonic Music Festival for the last decade.  Where his curating of the arts, musical programming and coordinating the general mood and staff of the event was exceptional and launched him and the festival into a global movement.  This year he has shifted his energy into a more global and conscious project called Tabularasa that will be launching in February 2020.  All we know is the project will host various events and musicians around the globe to promote creative and forward thinking ideologies through art, music, and social change.  Mazuco’s 25years of industry experience can only keep us guessing about things yet to come.

It all began in the early 90’s in the Tokyo jungle and Marco first gets infected by a vinyl at the age of 14 and has been addicted to the musical disease ever since DJing at some of Tokyo’s most prominent Trance parties together with names that are now only legend in the world of Goa Trance. FROM 18 until his mid 20’s he co-ran a record store HOUSE OF TRANCE in NYC , and ran their monthly parties in the Lower East Side.  Turning New Yorkers on to the power of music was only just the beginning.

The addiction drove him to Sydney Australia where he co-founded Sydney’s legendary club nights Deep As Funk and more recently his Subclub series.  Incorporation of his festival experience could clearly be seen in the latter as festival-like production, art & performance.  With international DJs and performers toured from around the world and a running time of over 16hrs of non stop music across 3 stages and an outdoor after hours stage for the grand finale, not only was it Australia’s wildest funfair of a night but also boasted Australia’s longest running time.  The magic of Subclub now continues with Tabulrasa launching his new version of the event in Feb with a similar format but with an increased attention to detail.

Mazuco’s ongoing musical addiction spread and took control of his life and first infected him with Festival bug almost 20 years ago and began with the creation of Earthdance Sydney an inner city multi faceted community music festival that grew from 500 to 20000 dancers in 4 years.  A victim of its own success the festival collapsed as a result of too many people and being to popular for an inner city venue to handle so Mazuko shepparded the team across to form Subsonic Music Festival now in its 11th year.

But let’s get back to the basics. Marcos’ sound has been refined and forged by many years of travelling, organizing, and performing and transforming his experiences into a class A addiction.  Basically he has thrown it all away and dedicated his life creating masterful and meaningful music and event experiences in global hubs such as Germany, Spain, Belgium, Poland, France, USA, Japan, as well as the more exotic Thailand, New Caledonia, Fiji, New Zealand, Brazil, and of course Australia, where he can be still spotted in Bondi eating a deep fried mars bar when the moon is full.  Asides from his own brainchild Subsonic Music Festival, he is specialised in making people dance at festivals and open air events including past Rainbow Serpents & EarthFrequencies (Australia),  Garbicz & Fusion Festivals – Bachstelzen Stage (Germany), Universo Parallelo (Brazil) Plötzlich am Meer (Poland), End Of The Line & Shipwrecked (NZ), and with the ongoing eclipse chasing festivals beginning with Oregon Eclipse Festival (USA) and is a prospect for the up and coming Patagonia Eclipse Festival in Argentina . He can’t resist to play a track or two when he’s close to clubs either, and enjoys sticking his head into Berlin’s Katerblau, Salon zur Wilden Renate, Sysiphos, Chalet Club, GoldenGate, & formerly (RIP) Katerholzig.

Of course it goes without saying, that with having such an extensive repertoire, Marco has graced the decks with some of the world’s finest purveyors of music. Because let’s face it – if you are with 25 years experience in all facets of minimal, house & techno, you would have to become somewhat of a master.
