Dr Betty Sargeant is an award-winning media artist who places audiences in the centre of multi-sensory installation experiences.

Betty is co-creative director of PluginHUMAN, a Melbourne-based art-technology duo and their latest project under development is the loop.

the loop places the human body at the centre of a digital experience. The project investigates human-computer integration using a feedback loop between people and machines, forming a cycle of information that is shaped by a collusion between active brainwaves and real-time multi-sensory art. the loop involves sight, sound, touch, smell and taste.

the loop features the music by Andrew Ogburn and PluginHUMAN, and it is being directed and choreographed by Penny Baron.

Revered internationally and nationally Betty’s accolades are extensive.

  • Shortlisted for a Contemporary Art Award (2019)
  • Won a Good Design Award (2018) and a Victorian Premier’s Design Award
  • Currently creator-in-residence at the Exertion Games Lab (RMIT University Australia), where she is developing a series of media artworks.
  • Melbourne Knowledge Fellow (2016) and she was Creator-in-residence at the Asia Culture Centre (South Korea, 2017 & 2016).

Betty has exhibited her work in Asia, Europe, North America and Australia.

Betty’s PhD was ranked top three at the CHASS Prize (2015).
