All the way from Canberra, Detention hits Melbourne for a one hour Guest Mix this Friday.

He’s been mixing for the past 5 years, and started getting into CDJs in the last year. As such, he might look new on the scene but has quite a bit of DJing experience. Presenting shows and DJing live on University of Canberra FM helped kick start the Canberra natives’ career. As he begins to make waves in Canberra, performing fortnightly on the UC campus, Detention has been surging beyond the Territory. A regular Melbourne visitor he’s been slowly getting his name and beats out to the northside crew.

The name Detention was originally a joke from his Education degree – coolest teacher ever, right? But the name came from one of his first live gigs, an activist afterparty, and is actually a political statement about the plight of refugees coming to Australia. Detention brings a darker style to his sets, with heavy basslines back to back on sharp hi-hats. His love for dark, minimal, bassy techno, is offset with the kicking grooves of deep house, and crisp highs of 90s classics. The Canberra kid is a rising star you won’t want to miss.
