Ben Hill | Interview – About Sight Optometry | with Timmy 5pm Weds 2nd Sept 20

Chat 1 – See More In 2020

20/20 – Is often referred to when qualifying perfect vision, and coincidently correlates with the year we are dwelling in. A year (so far) marked with compromised vision; events and decisions that are incongruent with the philosophy of 2020 being ‘the year of clear vision’ – one eye looking forward and one eye looking back.

On top of all this, we still haven’t got fucking hover boards.

That aside, I am writing this short-article to hopefully help guide your vision and mind through this difficult period.

Playing like a Panda during the Pandemic

If you have been spending 2020 in a confined space, eating nature and trying to keep your species alive; then you might have noticed it can get foggy.

Anti-Fog

With masks being all the rage, our 2020 vision is being further compromised by that hot air that comes out of our mouth and fogs up our glasses and sunglasses.

The best solution is our OptiFog cloth that provides a coating on your lenses and reduces fog. The reusable cloth can last upto 12 months, so is a good investment at $12.95* (*Special KissFM Member Price until September 30th and limited to first 20 customers)

Working it Out from Home

Working from home presents some unique challenges, and being able to get through the day with minimal eye-fatigue and headaches can help your mood and productivity.

Like most medical aids and prescription drugs, your prescription is for YOU. Therefore it isn’t a one-size-fits-all.

With your eyes, it is no different. Many factors need to be considered. Here are two key factors:

1 – Distance to Object –

One of the most looked-over factors is the distance between you and the object you look at most. E.g laptop. Most often, an eye-prescription is catered for book reading distance (~30-40cm), therefore if you are working on your laptop, or watching a lot of TV, it is likely that these objects are more than 30cm from your eyes. As a result, your eyes are working harder to bring this object into focus. Over extended periods of time, this results in discomfort and fatigue.

So, what to do? Well, to ensure your eye can see the object that is farther away more easily, your optical-prescription will need some tweaks.

2 – Blue Light (HEV)

Blue Light (HEV) is essentially visible light that is high energy / short wavelength. Unless you are deprived of all human contact, you will be aware this light is emitted i

There are studies out there which indicate that blue light can affect sleep and potentially lead to eye-health problems.

There are also other studies that indicate blue light does NOT affect melatonin that affects your sleep patterns, but rather yellow light.

The long term effects of Blue Light (HEV) are not yet fully known.

In all, prevention is better than cure, so restricting the amount of high energy light is potentially a good thing, and can protect your eye-health.

This can be done by:

Reducing blue light by device settings

Reducing your time in front of screens

Getting a BLUE-BLOCK lens coating on lenses in your optical spectacles.

BLUE-BLOCK lens coatings are available at About Sight.

SCAMS – Be aware of tactics used by many online sellers that claim to sell blue light blocking frames / lenses, which actually have no coating that blocks Blue Light (HEV)
