NEIL SMITH
(Sydney)
Starting out working for one of the big-name promoters in the south west of England and spending most weekends clubbing, Neil developed a passion for dance music that remains to this day. Back then in the mid 90’s he was heavily influenced by the likes of Tony De Vit, Blu Peter, Danny Rampling, Sasha & John Digweed and Laurent Garnier. Through this passion he bought an old pair of turntables and started teaching himself to mix.
Through practice and passion, he then started to secure slots on the south coasts’ vibrant nightlife scene, playing in a lot of the South’s bars and clubs. He soon built a reputation that carried all the way to Bournemouth and London, and before long was playing in the capital at the legendary venues; Bagley’s, Turnmills, The Cross and The Egg at acclaimed nights such as Prologue, Smartie Partie, Therapy London and Hed Kandi.
Fast forward to his arrival in Australia in 2004, and he has continued to play at prolific events at some of the biggest venues in Sydney and Melbourne alongside world class DJs including Christian Smith, Mark Knight, Hernan Cattaneo, Darius Syrossian, Marco Bailey, UMEK, Dubfire, Matador, Guy J, Eeelke Kleijn, Guy Gerber, Mano Le Tough, Alex Niggeman, Oliver Koletzki, Âme, Audiojack, Hot Since 82, Yousef and DJ Tennis to name a few.
Having played for brands such as T1000/Electric Gardens, Space, Days Like This, Spektrum, WeLove, Jigsaw, Porridge and Musik Matters, Neil certainly carries vast experience, knows his market well and is respected by his peers.
He is now inspired by the tougher edged sounds of Alex Stein, Christian Smith, Victor Ruiz, Oliver Koletzki, Dhes and Sian, and with over 20 years’ experience across multiple genres, tight mixing and love of all things house music, Neil loves to play to any crowd, whatever the mood or event.
Over recent years Neil has developed his sound and energy which blends techno with deep, driving baselines with infectious melodies – a sound that’s guaranteed to fill and keep any floor moving.
