Urban Fervour host MzRizk chats with Kamasi Washington who will be touring Australia in March!

Born into a musical family, Kamasi Washington began playing saxophone at the age of 13, later attending the prestigious Hamilton High School of Music followed by UCLA. He has toured and recorded with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Rapahel Saadiq, Kendrick Lamar, Gerald Wilson, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, Harvey Mason and Chaka Khan, to name a few.

Washington released his groundbreaking solo album, The Epic in May 2015. The triple disc masterpiece was both written and conducted by Washington and fuses elements of jazz, soul, classical, hip-hop and even gospel. Named by The New York Times as the number one album of 2015, The Epic debuted at #1 on the iTunes jazz charts in the US, Canada, Russia, the UK and Australia.

Besides his dynamic live performances, Washington spends much of his time working on movie scores and albums. He also appeared on one of the best hip-hop albums of the past 12 months: Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly.

He will be performing in Melbourne in March and his album The Epic is available now.
