Drooee (Drew) grew up in hot, sunny Perth, Western Australia (one of the few most remote capital cities on Earth).
Always obsessed with music, he started buying records when he was 10.
In the mid to late ’90s, as a wide-eyed 20-something, after studying Fine Art for 3 years, Drew worked as a photographer. Most notably he was the club photographer for Perth’s venerated X-Press Magazine and all manner of commercial photography.
Drew photographed all of the big club events and festivals and had a ball doing it.
He was lucky to get up close and personal with some of the world’s greatest DJs, and always knew he wanted to do it himself one day.
Drew then DJed a little for fun on friends’ equipment at parties, but he was completely obsessed with photography at that time and never really delved too deeply into DJing and music production.
But Drew never stopped buying records.
His 30s were all about his wife and now 2 daughters (Harriett and Zoe – born 2007 and 2011, respectively).
In 2008 Drew moved to the other side of the country to Melbourne.
And now in his late 40s, over the past 10ish years he’s rediscovered that burning passion for music, records and mixing that was always lurking in the background.
Nowadays Drew makes his own music with a growing collection of synths, drum machines and other audio gear, he DJs for fun, and in the last few years has started working with the amazing Warrandyte Theatre Company as a Sound Designer and all round audio tech guy, and a bit of lighting and other stage and production stuff.
Music isn’t his day job – Drew works as a Business Analyst for a megacorp. He does databases and systems and shit.
