Producer/DJ Rinzen drops ‘Déjà vu’ ft. Molly Moonwater, the final single from his forthcoming debut sci-fi concept album, ‘Bend to the Light’ (April 5^th) on Lane 8’s This Never Happened.

‘Déjà vu’ ft. Molly Moonwater aka indie/alt pop singer Sophia Bel: distorted, reverb-rich glissando bass notes create an ominous vibe against Moonwater’s sweet, upbeat voice and lyrics – ‘maybe we could be brand new’ – and a jaunty, chunky synth melody, as if contrasting hopeful intention with harsher reality. Rinzen: ‘Molly Moonwater’s original demo of ‘Déjà Vu’ was very slow and felt like a ‘90s ballad, but I was enchanted by her vocal. I sped up the song to 120 BPM and added a chugging bassline and suddenly it took on this entire new life. Once I figured out the synth melody, I knew it was going to be a key song on the album.’

 The half-Japanese Los Angeles producer honed his innate gift for storytelling as a respected former music journalist/editor. His dystopian, sci-fi inspired cinematic style evokes new worldscapes, even in his more club focused cuts. His extended DJ sets are legendary – see upcoming gigs below.

‘Bend to the Light’ album concept: inspired by a cyberpunk aesthetic, Rinzen soundtracks a high-tech near-future of interplanetary travel/civilisations, where a glittering surface hides darkness below, as this world still struggles with our human emotional problems, joys and relationships.

‘Show up every day, make your best material, then repeat,’ is how Rinzen creates his stories. Fans can catch him at Sound LA (all night long, May 4^th), Newspeak Montreal (5-hour set, May 17^th) and We Belong Here festival (Governors Island NYC, May 24^th).
