Event Details

Look, feel and touch museum quality mourning and sentimental jewellery whilst listening to historical stories presented by a world expert in this fascinating jewellery.

Workshop participants will be invited to view a collection of jewels from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries and taken on a narrative about how they guided the course of modern history. This is an interactive workshop, where participants can handle materials, such as human hair jewellery, and ask questions about how and why they were created. This workshop is for the lover of history, art and fashion, where you can discover marvellous tales from time and see how wearing a jewel defined an entire life.

Our experienced leader Hayden Peters has been teaching mourning jewellery history since 2005 worldwide. He has been showcased in museums, written articles & been on TV. The topic of grief & love in jewels is one of the most beautiful & important factors that defines who we are today. They give us a look into how our own ancestors behaved, which wasn’t as different as how we are today! These little tokens help us to discover more about these lives and give us greater insight. Learn, love & laugh as we see how a king who wanted a few more wives led to the creation of an entire mourning industry!
