This Wednesday we’re joined by Melbourne-born rapper, poet and storyteller I.D. (BILLY), fresh off the release of his latest album BALANCE.
With a sound rooted in golden-era New York hip hop and Southern soul, I.D. brings together sharp lyricism, meaningful storytelling and influences spanning soul, blues, funk and live instrumentation.
His name was given to him by the late Proof of D12 during the finals of the Word War One freestyle competition, and his musical journey has continued to evolve ever since. His Soulbourne EP earned praise from Grammy Award-winning violinist Miri Ben-Ari, and he is also a member of the genre-blending soul band Soul Bourne.
Music runs deep in I.D.’s family, with his Cypriot grandfather having played piano accordion in local bands after migrating to Australia — a musical legacy that continues to influence his artistry.
We’ll be getting into his newly released album BALANCE, unpacking the meaning behind the project, the stories within the tracks and the creative process that brought it all together.
Outside of music, Billy is also a Board Director at LifeChanger Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to preventative youth mental health and empowering young people.
And to finish things off, I.D. has something very special planned for our SPITFIRE SESSIONS — bringing a performance we’ve never had on Kickin’ It before! 🔥🎤
