AL BLACK | GUEST MIX | 6PM FRIDAY 11TH MAY 2018

From the moment Al walked into Sanction @ Chevron one October night back in ‘93, he knew that things were about to get a whole lot more fun. While he developed an instant love for the music, he was always too busy having fun on the dancefloor to consider getting behind the decks.

Eventually however, he got his shit together and now he’s a DJ.

Having been involved with Kiss FM since ‘94, Al was co-host of the weekday Ballistic Breakfast show for Broadcast #2 with Margie Green, James Fitzgerald, and David Reece. He then did live snow reports from Falls Creek, which was more of a report on what happened in the mountain party scene each night, rather than the condition of the snow!

It was after returning from the snow that Al created the kilt-wearing Out There Al character, and that’s when things really went downhill. The next 6 years can be summed up by Al doing live crosses from all over Melbourne, while somehow always getting himself into lots of questionable situations. He even did a stint in London, doing live crosses from clubs such as Turnmills, Heaven, and others, with legends such as Judge Jules, Sasha, Danny Rampling, John Digweed and many others.

Fast forward to to 2005, Kiss is back on the airwaves and Al, as Out There Al,  is back doing the breakky show. This time it’s The Breakfast Club, and for the next few years, Al and co-hosts Paulie and Little MISS Niss, as well as plenty of regular guests, brought chaos and mayhem to Melbourne’s drive to work.

Primarily a house and nu-disco fan, Al’s a massive fan of guys like Joey Negro, Dicky Trisco, Pete Herbert, The Reflex, Dr Packer, Late Nite Tuff Guy, Babert, Fingerman, DJ Spen, Eric Kupper, Jamie Lewis, Groove Junkies, DJ Meme, Ivan Jack….and plenty more just like them. And a nod of the head to his favourite local DJ of all time…Peter Mac  😉

These days you can find Al dodging man-eating sharks in his new home of WA, where he’s been looking for mischief since 2010. Most of his gigs these days are in Freo, and usually involve either the beach or a pool, but you can also catch him at a number of Perth’s favourite venues.

Because he’s really introverted and doesn’t like parties, he also runs a bar tour business. He finds it very hard work partying with different people on these tours, but he perseveres and somehow gets through them.
