| Music Speaks | Poetry In Motion | Ft. Joy & Sparks (LIVE) | Thurs 12 – 2 |

Poetry and music are more closely related than we think.

And there is something to be said to those who combine literature, poetry & music… for they are following a tradition as we know from history; when the great bards were performing their poetry it would be accompanied by music. Stemming from poetry, to spoken word, to rap and progressing to various forms of hiphop: we find words drenched in melody and dipped in sound in the depths of underground electronica.

We find Joy & Sparks

… And we (of course) ask her to come in and showcase her mixture of electronic texture and oscallating literature. Because not only is the poet a muse to the composer, but vice versa.

Joy & Sparks
has finally bitten the proverbial bullet and started producing under her own moniker. With her eyes set firmly on collaborating with any spirit she deems ‘authentic & honest’, she’s now finding her own sound in the aural sea and she’s not afraid to share her empathic and deeply grounded philosophy with you. Her live show, (which featured at Strawberry Fields, Rainbow serpent, OzAsia Festival and WomAdelaide) consists of triggering her own productions while layering and looping her siren calls to audiences who cannot be anything other than present within her seduction. This young woman is one who keeps her head in the clouds but her feet firmly rooted to the earth.

Sophia Sin

Having spent a large part of her formative years experiencing the pure, personal joys of merging vinyl together in her bedroom whilst amassing an aural arsenal of spellbinding records, Sophia made a fateful decision to let go of what she had (the epic collection) in order to finance her expansive vision (sharing and creating music that means something), That leap of trust has been rewarded - aside from music festivals and other special events, Sophia holds down wheel-spinning duties at multiple venues, including her almost five year residency at legendary Melbourne institution Revolver Upstairs. Her burgeoning reputation (and infectious enthusiasm between the monitors) has also given Sophia the chance to share line-ups with some of the most respected international names in the industry, including Stimming, Maceoplex, Alexkidd, Jay Lumen and Mark Henning. And now the next step has recently been taken in Sophia's music affair: a left field production career that eschews the usual 'paint by numbers' playbook (and strictly-enforced 'genre defining traits') of cookie cutter releases. In creating a soothing-but-not-saccharine alchemy of her voice and her own music recordings, she has remained true to her diverse inner soundscape whilst assembling a "world-ly" style that funkily-straddles the border between dubstep and triphop, with a loving nod to tech and deep house thrown into the brew for good measure. With her first hit "Singing In The Rain" reaching the top 10 in the beatport Chillout charts, she is only getting warmed up to bigger and brighter musings.
