About the Show

James Hype has proven himself to be arguably one of the UKs most important artists with his bootlegs and remixes consistently forming the cornerstone UK and international dance floors, alongside his singles regularly clocking tens of millions of streams. He has also been able to set the bar of what is humanly possible as a DJ in dance music, serving as a product ambassador for Pioneer DJ.

Growing up in Liverpool in the North of England, James Hype took to DJing at the age of 15, and by 16 had taken to DJing house parties and birthdays for his friends. James reflects that he was “fascinated by grime instrumentals” at the time, listening to BBC 1Xtra and watching music videos showing the DJs using the decks, and committed to learning to emulate what he was watching. After cutting his teeth in the local club circuit and spending every spare hour sharpening his now signature skills, James Hype found the need for upbeat, club ready remixes of usually slower records compelling. This led him to create his own edits of tracks which were prolific in the charts but needed an extra dose of energy to suit the dancefloors he was playing to. This then expanded his name from resident DJ to in demand touring DJ. Using online platforms such as DJ City and Soundcloud, James continued to gain notoriety and with the exponential success of his remix of Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’, James had exploded onto the national scene with keen eyes anticipating original material to come.

The awaited single came in 2017 by way of Warner Records. ‘More Than Friends’, which featured Kelli-Leigh, catapulted the name James Hype to daytime radio and international households, proving a seminal point in James Hypes career. The record managed to peak at number 8 in the UK official charts, and has amassed upwards of 230 million cumulative streams, which has led to Platinum and Gold sales awards in the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands to mention a few. James Hype followed up in 2018, collaborating with highly respected multi award winning artist, Craig David. ‘No Drama’ served as James Hype’s first fully original record in the marketplace and has enjoyed great success, including a TV advert campaign for Schwarzkopf, over 100 million cumulative streams and radio support across national radio stations.2019 saw James Hype release his third single, ‘I Was Lovin’ You’, a collaboration with Dots Per Inch featuring singer Ayak. Comfortably heading to exceed 40million combined streams, and the record saw heavy support from national radio, Spotify and Apple Music.

Running parallel to his single success James Hype continues to be one of the UKs most prolific remixers, with highly esteemed official remixes of top artists, including Meduza, Joel Corry, Rita Ora, Mabel and Bruno Mars amassing over one hundred million streams across his remix catalogue.

This success, and James’ larger than life presence in the live arena have allowed him to regularly tour up and down the country’s clubs and festivals, as well as appearing internationally in hot spots including Ibiza, Australia, Germany, Dubai and France to name a few, with plans to take on the US by the end of 2021.James has also enjoyed arena shows, which include Echo Arena(Liverpool), MEN Arena(Manchester), SSE Wembley(London) and the O2 Arena(London). Alongside his electric lives how energy, James Hype has been able to carve out an impressive social media presence to share his personality, with content such as behind the scenes footage, live streaming and unique access to him show casing his incredible signature DJ skills, projecting to over 850,000 followers across his social media, with tens of millions of views and impressions across his activities. Over the past year especially Youtube has been one of James’ strongest outlets boasting 217000 subscribers and 41.2m views alone, with a large chunk being attributed to his live stream set recordings during the various pandemic lockdowns and openings of 2020.Always wanting to exceed expectation and vary his performance, James varied his location backdrop from his living room, kitchen to the shower of his home and once lockdown began to ease, he even managed to stream footage from in his tour van, on London’s Millennium Bridge, Alexandra Palace and on a London underground train carriage. His captivating aesthetics coupled with his insatiable energy levels propelled his stream to over a million views over the course of the year and cemented James Hype as arguably the best technical DJ in dance music. This also enabled James Hype to showcase his record label ‘Stereohype’, which provides a club focused outlet for James’ music as well as up and coming talent   personally A&R’d by him. Already, after only months active, the label is one of the top10 top selling tech house labels on Beatport and enjoys strong Spotify support on its releases with a dedicated fanbase, which extend to selling out exclusive merchandise sales, as well as pushing releases to the top level of Beatport’s genre charts.

2020 has proven to be a year of massive progression for James Hype following his signing with The Cross Records/ Island Records UK, leading to his brand new single ‘Afraid’ featuring HARLEE, securing daytime play listing within a month of release across national radio pushing the record to40 million streams and 9 weeks of official chart positioning, and remains on major UK radio rotation to date.

With this, bigger remixes, and a new live show concept in preparation for the returning festival circuit in creation for when touring can resume, James Hype is set to return and remain at the top of UK dance music and solidify his place as a trendsetter and chart mainstay.
