Recently named as one of GQ Magazine South Africa’s 35 Coolest People Under 35 at the ripe old age of just turned 23, Das Kapital is someone who it’s difficult to miss having built his reputation on musical excellence and his immense skills as both a DJ and producer.
One of the biggest DJ and producers in South Africa he headlines both festivals and club nights across the country bringing a party vibe allied with his excellent technical skills. Das Kapital is known for the brilliance of his DJing and ability to read a crowd to whom he transmits the infectious energy of his performances.
This energy is now transmitted via his segment InDasWeTrust on the biggest national youth radio station 5FM in South Africa every Thursday evening from 8.30pm (as part of DJ Warras’ show). InDasWeTrust sees Das Kapital break down barriers bringing the most upfront music to South Africa’s listeners.
As a DJ he regularly plays Rocking The Daisies, Rezonance, Ramfest, Synergy Live, Plett Rage and Oppikoppi in addition to SONAR Cape Town, Mad Decent Block Party, Ultra South Africa, and Secret Garden Party (UK).
He combines this with owning cult label Do Work Records and being a recording artist, producer and remixer of both independent and major label artists in South Africa, USA, UK, Europe and Australia; and a composer of Film & TV music (including trailer for Hollywood movie 21 Jump St and SA movie Harlinn).
He has also written music for Adidas and Nokia.
As a recording artist his tracks have been named “Hottest Track in South Africa” and play listed by national broadcasters 5FM, YFM, Metro FM and Good Hope.
Forthcoming releases include remixes for Royal K feat Lakota Silva’s “Love War” on F! Records / Soul Candi and Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl feat Christine Hoberg “Hear Me Calling” on Neon Records Australia. This follows up his remix of SA Number 1 artist Beatenberg’s “Chelsea Blakemore” which proved to be a huge festival favourite.
Every Wednesday evening from 9pm to midnight he presents The Das Kapital Radio Show which is a three hour extravaganza on Assembly Radio (assemblyradio.com). With the most listened to show on the station he regularly has guest mixes from the world’s biggest DJs, including Tiesto, Cedric Gervais, Maya Jane Coles, Mumbai Science, Borgore, Dismantle, Fourward, Koan Sound, DJ Rafik, Jade Blue, DJ Cable, Prok & Fitch, Hostage and Nicky Romero whose Protocol Radio Show is hosted exclusively for South Africa in the final hour of the show.
He also presents the his weekly #InDasWeTrustguest feature on 5FM (South Africa’s largest youth station) every Thursday from 20:30 – 21:00 with DJ Warras, debuting and breaking forthcoming and brand new club tracks from around the world.
In 2013 he appeared as a speaker at TEDxUCT and also at the Durban Electronic Festival to share his knowledge and experience of the Dance music industry. He has also appeared as a guest on SABC2 Youth TV show HecticNine-9 to their 2.5 million viewers.
In February 2014 a partnership with Puma was announced whereby they look to work with Das Kapital on a variety of music projects over the year and also produce both his own and Do Work Records merchandise.
In March 2014 Das Kapital also made headlines in South Africa when he launched the Kyle Brinkmann Breast Cancer Survivor Project in response to a chain of bars’ plastic surgery competition. Partnering with PinkDrive he has raised over R25, 000 with support from national press and national radio.
