SIKDOPE | INTERVIEW & GUESTMIX | SPOTLIGHT RADIO | MON 6PM

Episode 5 marks our first international artist to feature on the show, Sikdope.

Don’t sleep on Sikdope; he’ll make sure it costs you. The 27-year-old Polish beatsmith is a chameleon in the studio — proctoring vicious bass-house and radio-ready progressive cuts with futuristic trap sensibilities — and knack for keeping everyone guessing. Sikdope’s brand of merciless festival ammunition eventually caught the ears, and co-sign, of Calvin Harris on his breakout hit, “Snakes,” essentially lighting a fuse that just continues to burn. Now the tenacious young producer has one hand gripping the wheel and a lead foot flooring the gas, steering the direction of electronic music’s most exciting new sounds. When he’s not canvasing clubs and festivals across the world, Sikdope is buried under headphones in the lab, tampering with dangerous new sonics. With a decade of classic training at one of Europe’s top production schools fueling his creative process, Sikdope always has an arsenal of new material at the ready, simultaneously pressing his punishing trap products to innovative new limits and helping pioneer a colossal bass-house swell. A growing legion of fans all over the world, from LA to Shanghai all believe “music is the cure,” and Sikdope consistently has the remedy. Having dominated festivals across four continents —from Belgium’s Tomorrowland to EDC Orlando’s Main Stage — with releases on Circus Records, Fly Eye, and Tiësto’s legendary Musical Freedom, Sikdope is positioned as one of today’s most explosive talents, and he’s dead set on taking over the game.

I’ve also got new music coming in from everywhere, as well as the Face-Melter & the Aussie Banger of The Week. I caught up with Sikdope before the show and you can check the full interview below.

————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Q. What was the electronic music scene like in Poland when you started out?

A. It was definitely not as big as it is now. We do have a huge festivals like Sunrise for EDM, Woodstock for anything rock related and open’er for anything in between. Back in 2007 there was only one club in my town with bass music, and that’s where I Spent most of my weekends attending to DNB raves.

Q. What was the first genre of music you really got into?

A. It was definitely Electro House from the artists like The bloody beetroots, MSTRKRFT, and then early dubstep from Benga and Skream were huge influences for me when I started producing.

Q. What festivals (when they return) do you have your eyes set on playing at?

A. Defo EDC las vegas, I played MainStage EDC Orlando back in 2017 and that was crazy

Q. What is one track that never gets old for you, no matter how much you hear it

A. Crookers remix of Kid Kudi day n night!

Q. Which button do you think you use the most when playing a set?

A. Definitely a play button, I do play a lot of music in my live sets so for example 60 minute set is around 50 songs

Q. What’s the weirdest smell you’ve ever smelled?

A. I think cilantro at first I hated it now I cannot live without it Im literally adding it to every meal.

Q. What is your personal record for playing the same record in one set and what was it?

A. I think the tune that I played the most in my sets is snakes people wanna hear it every time so weather it’s original mix or a remix by someone Im always dropping it

Q. What is something that bugs you about the scene?

A. The thing that bugs me the most is the fact that so many producers and DJ’s are treating everything like a race now. Like they wanna have more like, more followers trying to beat the competition, when at the end of the day it should be all about music and your fans than anything else.

Q. What is your favourite set time and duration?

A. My favourite set time is around 1:30h this allows me to play most stuff I want to. I’m also really active during my performances so more than that is really a struggle haha I measured couple times how many calories I burn on stage and its over a 1200 which is equivalent of running around 15km

Q. What do you try and communicate top the audience through your vibe?

A. My motto and brand is about music being a cure for anything bad that’s happening in your. Personally when I was young and frustrated at life rock and metal music was a huge relief for me, and thats what Im trying to do. If you feel something listening to my work or If I helped at least one person to deal with some issue with my music than Im really happy.

Q. What’s coming up for Sikdope?

A. Due to quarantine, Im spending most of time in the studio finishing new music and trust me we got huge things on the way. The first big thing Im gonna drop this year is my collab with Marshmello and this amazing rock band, but I can’t reveal more info just yet.
