Ahead of Vinyl Vixens 10th Birthday at Trainscendence Saturday 23rd May Sal Stormer and Wax Fox take over the Kiss studio for a mix and chat.
Sal Stormer (aka Lilstormer) started playing gigs in the early 2000s in Melbourne pubs, clubs, festivals, boats, and even a train. She reckons playing on a 90-year-old train for Traincore was the most mental party she’s been part of, with people holding down the decks because the carriage was rocking so hard the needles were jumping all over the place.
Sal co-curates Dark FOMO, a cheeky winter mini-festival at the Cactus Room in Thornbury, showcasing two days of live music, performance, art installations, projections, a top-notch line-up, and signature nude poetry.
Over the past 25 years, Sal has held residencies at Brainstorm Sessions (Republika), Canvas (Lounge) and Hot Wax Salon (Bunker Lounge), and performed as a guest at Earthcore, Revolver, Miss Libertine and Brown Alley. A founding member of the Brunswick Massive DJ collective, she ran a series of themed dance events and a weekly residency at Lambs Go Bar and Rainbow in Fitzroy for over ten years.
Sal’s range is wildly eclectic, encompassing breakbeat, tech house, techno deep house, UK garage, funk, soul, ska, reggae, rock, hip hop and swing. She’s excited to be DJing on a train again, albeit a more stable, stationary version this time.
WaX FoX (interview) bio
2026 will see WaX FoX celebrating two milestones; 18 years of spinning tunes around the pubs, clubs and parties of Naarm and a decade of Vinyl Vixens.
The music that fuels our dance floors has changed more rapidly than the strive for equality behind the decks. While there is still room for change in this space, WaX FoX will continue to bring her eclectic, rump shaking beats to set d-floors on fire and hold space for others to do the same.
