A staple in the Naarm (Melbourne) club scene, self-proclaimed “gig pig” Rosie Rai leans into radical self-confidence on her third release, ‘Better’.
Rosie Rai’s breadth of work as an artist, effortlessly juggles between songwriter, composer, producer, session artist and DJ. She crafts vibrant original tracks, including the score for the queer horror short film ‘SHADOWS,’ which was selected to be screened at this year’s MONSTER FEST. When not recording, producing and mixing her own music, Rosie Rai is an in demand session keys player and music director.
Formerly as a member of Miiesha’s touring band she performed at the Sydney Opera House, ABC studios for Triple J’s Like A Version, and Splendour in the Grass, and was music director for the smash hit show ‘Gender Euphoria’, most recently at Arts Centre Melbourne. Behind the decks Rosie has DJ’d at some of Melbourne’s most iconic queer venues, including Poof Doof, Sircuit, Mollie’s Bar and Diner, and UBQueer, where she’s built a loyal following and earned a DJ of the Year nomination at the 2024 Melbourne Excellence in Drag and Entertainment Awards.
Music was always in the picture for Rosie Rai. While studying at university, Rosie Rai quickly realised that the
pure maths degree route was not the right path and quickly pivoted into jazz piano lessons, being accepted into WAAPA’s Jazz program six months later.
