FRICTION welcomes MORBS from the Melbourne crew The Hideaway Club. A familiar face in the local scene and avid supporter of the community spirit that comes with being an underground DJ. Plus Morbs will be in the studio for a chat and we might even do a Live feed on the Kiss FM Facebook page.

MORBS (The Hideaway Club)
It was clear that from a young age, Morbs’ love for electronic music was as genuine as the sound of an old vinyl itself. Growing up in the UK his first introduction to the club scene and some of his earliest memories are from playing with the light up dancer floor, lasers and digging through old suitcases of 7” records in his fathers nightclub while waiting for him to cash up on a Sunday afternoon all the way back in 1987. Fast forward a couple of years and he spent the holidays working in his father’s pubs in London with every quid that came his way going straight towards his fast-growing collection of records. He admits that he was terrible at playing at first, but then again, who isn’t when they first start off? He kept at it and soon grew his skill and his repertoire of and passion for music. Soul, funk, reggae, dub, hip-hop, jungle, and bass; he was into anything with a solid vibe. In his teenage years, Morbs turned his focus towards underground club music such as house, drum and bass, garage, and 2-step. Some of his early influencers were 808 state, s express, Kraftwerk, aphex twin to name a few.
Music was then put on the backburner when Morbs was 18 when he started his career in bartending and hospitality in London’s pub and nightclub industry. Notwithstanding, his love for dulcet melodies and groovy bass lines never faded. In 2002, he came to Australia and worked in club management in manifold venues down under. Then, about 10 years later, he decided to let his love for music take centre stage. He started building himself up—using his abundance of knowledge in electronic music, the land of nightclubs where said electronic music dwells, and his overall outlook on why music is such a powerful and passionate thing—to the session hound and banger-delivering DJ we know today. He’s a resident at The Hideaway Club at Circus on Fridays and a frequent friend to all crews and parties across the Melbourne’s nightlife scene, being a guest at places like Revolver, OneSixOne, My Aeon, and Pawn & Co. It’s always a good time with Morbs and his funky melody-driven tunes, backed by big classic house beats, guaranteed to get you on the dancefloor.
