EPISODE 3:
To bring it in is a heap of new music. I’m kind of loving the isolation because of all thew new releases dropping! Fisher with his second track off the new EP, an absolute belter from KYRO, first time for BYOR on Spotlight and a different feel to this weeks FACE-MELTER. This weeks feature artist is MIICHA. MIICHA is the brainchild of Jaimi Starr, the Sydney born – Melbourne based pocket rocket taking the music scene by storm. No two MIICHA sets are the same, playing anything from house and hip hop in addition to her signature bass sets which fuse trap, dubstep, bass house and grime with commercial classics and undeniable stage presence. Check out the full interview with MIICHA below.
Word to the wise, this mix slaps so don’t miss this weeks show!
Q. How did things start for Miicha?
A. I had moved to Melbourne from Sydney and missed having friends to go see bass events with. A friend told me about a DJ competition called Yourshot and I thought it would be a great way to finally learn how to DJ and maybe make some friends to go to shows with. I ended up winning Yourshot 2016 and as a winner I got to play at Your Paradise Music Festival in Fiji, supporting Skrillex, What So Not & Anna Lunoe to name a few. Since then it has been full steam ahead growing my profile and playing shows across the country!
Q. What single night out has been the most memorable for you? As a DJ and as an attendee?
A. As a DJ it would have to be supporting Jack Beats on Christmas Eve 2018! He was so humble and hung out while I played after him and can be heard yelling “tuuuune” in the background of videos lol. On that night my mum was there to see me play for the first time too and honestly it was one of the best days of my life. As a punter there are too many to mention! Probably going to a DnB Allstars warehouse rave in London, 2019. Went alone and didn’t come home for three days after!
Q. I saw recently in one of your livestreams that you have a Samoyed, what’s it’s name?
A. Her name is Luna! She loves when I play music and usually is found sitting next to the speaker whilst I play 🙂
Q. What is one track that got popular that you can’t stand hearing?
A. Eat sleep rave repeat by Fatboy Slim – does my head in!
Q. Do you have any advice for someone who’s looking at getting their first set of decks?
A. Buy a cheap controller – second hand you can pick up some incredible deals! Don’t get caught up with buying a full setup for your first set – once you learn beat matching and basic effects, you’ll be able to apply that to any DJ equipment!
Q. If you could eternally be stuck in one year’s music scene, which year would it be?
A. GREAT QUESTION! This is suuuper hard to answer but I would probably say 2009 – it was an incredible year for not just DnB and dubstep, but had some amazing house music slappers!
Q. What is your favourite non electronic music song and why?
A. Yesterday by the Beatles – it’s the most beautiful song EVER and will always remind me of driving in the car listening to classic rock on repeat with my dad.
Q. What is something that bugs you about the DJ scene?
A. Feeling like you have to DJ only one genre! I love all genres of music and really enjoy mixing it up in sets, but most promoters want you to stick with one sound only.
Q. Chocolate or Vanilla?
A. Vanilla
Q. What is the one thing that you love the most about performing?
A. I love being able to contribute towards someone having a great night out. Clubbing in Melbourne can be sooo boring with so many commercial nights or venues pushing the same sound, so I love seeing the surprise on people’s daces when they hear something new when I play.
Q. What is one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it?
A. Everyday by Netsky!
Q. What can we expect from your guest-mix?
A. Expect the unexpected!
