This week on Positive Education, Love, Jess joins us live in the studio for a short interview and a one-hour guest mix. Tune in from 8.30pm, Monday 20th July!
Expect a set built for the club: heavy low-end, sharp percussion, and a restless mix of bass, breaks and hypnotic techno. It’s the kind of hour that moves between styles without losing its rhythm. Her own productions lean the same way; tracks like single ‘DMDBT’ sit breakbeats against a four-on-the-floor kick, and her forthcoming EP for Melbourne’s Proponent Records, A Drifter’s Gospel, opens in spoken word before locking into tribal, hypnotic club tracks.
Based in Naarm, she has played festivals including Sonder and A3, and supported artists such as Effy, Bakey, Yung Singh, Ben Hemsley and Eden Burns. Off the decks she founded Overdrive Magazine, covering the history, culture and politics of electronic music with an eye to community as much as nightlife.
She marks the EP with a launch for Proponent at Revolver Upstairs next Friday the 24th of July
