Katharine Motion | INTERVIEW & GUEST MIX | EAU DE GROOVE | WEDS 2PM

Katharine is co-owner of modern electronic music label Motion:Theory:Music with Ben Abrahams & Jules David.

Sublime sounds and hypnotic funk stimulate her being, compelling her to source and mix, creating euphoric journeys of micro, deep tech & soul-stirring modern house. Those who crave a nourishing sonic experience have followed Katharine’s journey along the Australian East Coast with her musical partner Ben Abrahams for over two decades, as they’ve influenced the scene with their exciting taste & consistent delivery of stimulating underground music.

They created ‘Strange Brew’, an all ages acid-house vinyl party at the Billinudgel Shed, Byron Bay; reveling in the outback for sunset was deliciously surreal. They ran eight extremely memorable years of Saturday nights at Elsewhere Bar on the Gold Coast; hosting greats such as Paul Woolford and DjThree.

Katharine played organic house before Ben’s killer 5 hour sets, then both joined together for the heaving sweaty early morning hours: a time when many deep friendships were formed. Katharine had the first of her two children before returning to Melbourne and putting on high-vibe parties at the infamous Killing Time Bar & My Aeon, always with a tight crew of Australia’s best underground DJs.

Now they have their forward thinking electronic music label Motion:Theory:Music, representing local artists Jules David and Timmus, and internationals such as Vincent Casanova, with releases by Herck, Jay Tripwire and other inspired creatives to come.

Katharine has played magical closing sets out in the bush, as her unique way elevates and deeply satisfies at both sunset & sunrise. You can find her djing at Over, Killing Time Bar, but enjoy her anytime through her own Motion:Theory mix series, & through the podcasts she makes for collectives who appreciate her taste and ability to source irresistible bass lines with psychedelic accompaniments.

Katharine made mixes for Art-E Romania, Feeder Sound and the Microtechno Podcast series eight years ago now, having long been recognised for her way with intricate sounds, particularly with lovers of micro-house and the Romanian influenced minimal. *Feeder Sound said “her recordings are intense and with a sophisticated perspective on sounds and rhythms.” She just keeps on lovingly creating fresh soundtracks for her friends’ lives, and this year alone has made 14 mixes for renowned collectives around the world with more coming.
