This week on FORUM we have Dr Ewen Jarvis, who will be revealing the latest winners of the Yarra Valley Arts / Yering Station Sculpture Exhibition and Awards.
Dr Ewen Jarvis is the Curator of the Yering Station Art Gallery at the historic Yering Station winery in the Yarra Valley. Each year in spring, some of Australia’s most talented sculptors are involved in an exhibition that spans both the designer buildings and gardens of Yering Station.
This year 48 finalists were chosen from 100 entrants by a selection panel of esteemed arts professionals: David Hurlston, Senior Curator Australian Painting and Sculpture to 1980 from the National Gallery of Victoria, Dr Jondi Keane, Associate Professor and Head of Art and Performance at Deakin University, and Dianna Gold, Independent Art Consultant and former Director of Gallery 101.
Among the works on display are a pair of towering inflatable bears entitled ‘The Breath of Giants’ by Lisa Anderson, a kinetic plantation of swirling trees by Rudi Jass and an installation of anthropomorphic beings that combine human, fungi and plant forms.
With the opening and presentation of awards taking place on Sunday 13 October, Ewen will be in a position to reveal the award winners and talk about some of the highlights of the show.
