ASH MAC-
Meet ASHMAC, a rising star in the world of techno music who’s making waves in Melbourne’s electronic music scene. With over 35,000 plays on Soundcloud, ASHMAC’s mixtapes have captivated listeners, showcasing their prowess in sound production and talent for creating heavy-hitting techno remixes of popular songs. Currently pursuing a Diploma of Sound Production, ASHMAC is dedicated to honing her craft.
Notably, ASHMAC has garnered attention from two influential Melbourne-based labels, Dangerous Goods Ent and Filth Society & supporting artists like T78, DIØN, Airrod, Rian Wood, and many other international European techno talents. ASHMAC’s swift ascent in the Melbourne scene isn’t solely attributed to her technical skills on the decks. Instead, it’s her unapologetic attitude and refusal to conform to conventional expectations that truly set them apart.
ASHMAC’s journey in the music industry hasn’t been without its challenges. She’s faced criticism and discrimination for not adhering to traditional stereotypes of how a female DJ should present themselves. However, instead of succumbing to the pressure to conform, ASHMAC remained true to herself, covering up and prioritising her comfort over others’ expectations. This unwavering commitment to their authentic self caught the attention of booking agents and industry insiders in Melbourne, opening doors to countless opportunities.
As a testament to her resilience and individuality, ASHMAC now finds herself booked to perform at some of Melbourne’s most prominent music venues, including The Third Day and The Timberyard later this year. Her versatility in mixing and genre selection is another defining feature of her DJing style. Starting as a minimal DJ, ASHMAC’s evolution into a peak time and hard techno DJ showcases her adaptability and commitment to pushing the boundaries of her craft.
ASHMAC’s story is a testament to the power of self-expression and staying true to one’s vision in a sometimes restrictive industry. With a promising future ahead and a growing fanbase, ASHMAC is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with in Melbourne’s techno music scene. Keep an eye (and ear) out for this rising star as she continues to shape the sound of the city’s electronic music landscape.
