Event Details

On Friday the 20th of October, we pay homage to Melbourne’s underground house and techno scene with three of this city’s most exciting, and respected artists.

First up, Thick as Thieves’ very own “Stillborn monster” emerges from the cage… T-REK.  Joining him is one of our finest, talented homegrown producers to-date, with fresh releases on the likes of All Day I Dream and Watergate Records… RETZA.  And finally, joining this already enormous bill to take our party into the stratosphere, it’s house and disco party-starter SPACEY SPACE!

With huge support from the most talented of artists around town – Hyper Binary, Stevie Strafford, Luke Lawrence, Lask, David Engel (Mensch), Julian Clyne and Samuel Jay.

Tickets are available via Eventbrite… My word, this is gonna be fun.

T-REK

– Freakshow Disco Productions, Thick as Thieves –

https://soundcloud.com/t-rek

Melbourne based music producer, DJ & musician, T-Rek has been regularly recording and releasing records since 2002… first as one half of live performance duo @Bionikworld, and as a solo artist since 2005.  He’s has released dozens of his own and other peoples records via his own record label Freakshow Disco Productions.

T-Rek has been a live performer with a host of Australian bands including Infusion, Kim Salmon & The Business, and his own ‘T-Rek Band’, who have appeared twice as part of the national Big Day Out tour.  While he is aware that it can appear impressive to name drop some of the people he has DJed and performed in support of, T-Rek will attempt to impress you nevertheless: LCD Soundsystem, David Bowie, UNKLE, The Prodigy, Carl Cox, MIA, Andrew Weatherall, deadmau5, etc, etc.

Officially he’s remixed many bands and fellow producers including Coolio & Snoop Dogg, The Kills, Something For Kate & Nick Coleman (Faces Of Meth), and has been a resident DJ at Melbourne nightclub institution Revolver Upstairs for over 10 years.

T-Rek is currently working on a slew of new club music collaborations, as well as reissuing some of his older material with new remixes etc

RETZA

– All Day I Dream, Watergate Records –

https://soundcloud.com/retzamusic

Hailing from Melbourne, Retza is a producer/DJ who’s had the underground heads listening, talking and following for the past couple of years. With several original releases and remixes under his belt 2014 was a breakout year for the bearded dynamo as his audience grew and his production and gig schedule increased dramatically.

Focusing on various forms of house and techno, Retza’s productions have been lauded by punters and peers alike for their depth and complexity, gaining support from the likes of Kasey Taylor, Lee Burridge, Uone, Jamie Stevens, YokoO and Steve Ward.

Well on his way to becoming Australia’s next big electronic music export, Retza’s success has been celebrated with prominent appearances at Rainbow Serpent Festival, CHI WOW WAH TOWN, as well as multiple interstate and international tours and a multitude of releases on various labels.

With original and remix releases on All Day I Dream, Watergate Records and Lo-Fi 45, 2017 is set to be even a bigger year for Retza.

SPACEY SPACE

– Revolver Upstairs, Suckmusic –

https://soundcloud.com/spacey-space

Part man, part myth, Spacey Space has been an exuberant presence in the Melbourne dance music scene for over 25 years. He is perhaps best known for his epic DJ sets performed in a converted parachute factory in Prahran, also known as Revolver Upstairs. Playing not one but two 4-hour sets every Sunday, this residency spans over half his career.

Humble beginnings as most beginnings are, Spacey’s love of bringing music to the masses started by recording radio shows on his parents’ stereo and making countless mix tapes. This hobby led to buying some records and his first gig, his own 21st birthday.

The 90s saw him develop his record collection along with his skills. He established residencies at Lounge, Centriphugal, Honkytonks and the aforementioned Revolver Upstairs. Playing sounds from all along the house and techno spectrum, he hosted a popular radio show on Kiss 90 FM, and played in Melbourne’s emerging warehouse party and rave scene, including various Hardware and Earthcore events.

Spacey Space’s upward trajectory has continued into the new millennium and shows no signs of slowing. Signing with Suckmusic has him back in the studio with the production flame reignited, working on some releases due in the new year.

Not one for complacency and with a penchant for taking risks, Spacey’s DJing moves from strength to strength. You’ll find him playing at clubs all across Australia and of course in his hometown of Melbourne where he is also a regular on the festival circuit.

While his career moves into the stratosphere, Spacey’s feet remain firmly planted on the ground. Inspired not only by the music he plays but who he plays it to, there’s a mutual respect between DJ and dance floor that sees the people taking him higher as he sends them into space.
