TUE 7 OCT – “YARD & ABROAD” Dancehall panel and Videography screening night “Let’s get together and ‘Wul a Reason” on all things Jamaican Dancehall from the roots to the global stage.”

As part of the Aus Dancehall Fest 2025 – a celebration of Jamaican Dancehall dance, music, and culture we are thrilled to be hosting a discussion with a panel of guest speakers from Jamaica and the diaspora about their perspective of Dancehall culture – what it means to them as Jamaicans and what insights they have to share about the Globalisation of their roots and culture.

Our very special guest speakers will include Latonya Style, Dancehall dance creator and pioneer; Stick Mareebo, former-Radio Host, Selector, and Founder of Jamaica Music and Food Festival; Rasta Huxx, Jamaican Dancehall creator and member of dance crew ‘Foot On Flamez, and Robin Clare, Jamaican born visual artist now based in Naarm.

This much needed discussion will culminate in a screening presentation of video entries by videographers, film makers and creatives from across Australia who have entered our “Aus
Dancehall videography competition”.
Competition entrants will be required to create a 3–5-minute video that includes all elements of Dancehall culture including the music, fashion, slang, and of course dance. Judges will be
selecting the winner based on creativity, knowledge of Dancehall culture, videography skills, storyline and direction.

As an audience member of this event, you will also be able to submit your vote for the “People’s Choice” prize awarded to the most popular videographer according to our audience.
