Expect to hear some new gems from the melodic maestro when he returns to Brown Alley.

In support, are two more German sensations – Deep house legend Doctor Dru, from the Exploited crew and deep house new kid, LCAW with over 25 million plays on his soundcloud for remixes of London Grammar, ZHU, Parov Stelar, Maisonair and Andreas Moe.

Bio
For Rune Reilly Kölsch, Kompakt has become a great label to call home. In 2013 the German imprint celebrated 20 years of record releases at the cutting edge of electronic music, championed in June by one of the most genre re-defining albums and personal music projects for an era: Kölsch’s landmark long player, ‘1977’.

A melodic autobiography on black wax, the Kölsch project has seen 36/37-year-old Rune take stock of a diverse and successful production career and draw upon his own personal beginnings: a nostalgia for childhood, family, friends and the confusion of applying his split-cultural heritage to what it means to think of ‘home’. As Rune freely admits, “being half Irish, half German and living in Denmark – it was all one big messy period of my life.”

Born to hippie parents in the freetown of Christiania (a commune-like autonomous borough of the Danish capital Copenhagen) his childhood was spent surrounded by creativity. His mother was an artist whose family had roots in German politics and his father a singer songwriter who travelled through Asia playing music in the early 70’s. Kölsch, however, did miss out on buildng friendships and found solace in making up “this imaginary world that I would spend days in,” before the family moved to Germany – a period of memories, relations and characters from which ‘1977’ derives its titles.

Doctor Dru Anthem- The Voice of Dru

Doctor Dru Mix:

It all started, when Doctor Dru was a little boy beating his mothers pots and pans with his drumsticks. Three priorities dominated his youth, the Snare, Skateboarding & Soul Music. Soon his professional drumming career took him around Europe, supporting artists like R.Kelly in sold out concert halls. A skateboarding accident left him with two broken arms and put an abrupt end to drumming for a while. But tweaking a mixer was still possible, and so the relationship with an atari and a drummachine began. The subsequent years were spent honing his production skills and spinning vinyl at numerous parties and clubs. Before long he was producing a wide variety of artists including one of his heroes, Bootsy Collins.

In 2010 he founded the label JEUDI Records, with like minded friends from Baalsaal, Hamburg and the following year saw him ghostproducing for other DJs and debut his own material. “Ooh Gosh!”, his debut EP sat in the Top 5 of the dancecharts for weeks. Doctor Dru was also the producer behind “Juicy Fruit”, the 2011 summer hit and success story of Exploited’s sub label Blackjuke Box; and the “Anymore” EP in collaboration with his buddies Adana Twins. Then the Twins hired him for their breakthrough: the “Everyday” EP on Exploited, and with ‘The Voice of Dru,’ Doctor Dru created his own breakthrough. A modern take on a classic italo track which, within a few days , became a Beatport Top 10 Hit and sat comfortably at Deephouse No.1 for weeks. Releases on OFF, Jeudi Records & Stil vor Talent followed soon after. His third joint, the ” 2KnowU” EP came on Exploited in November 2012 and a darker number “U dont dance” on the Jackmode 5 year compilation in May 2013, showcased yet more sides of his mutifaceted talent. With so much behind him already, we’re excited to see what the future holds for Doctor Dru.

DJ Mix

You can easily say that Leon Weber aka LCAW is a little genius.

Already by the age of two he started to play the piano. No wonder as he comes from a music family that is totally dedicated to classical music. The mother a professor for piano. The older sisters both playing strings in famous German orchestras.

Until one year ago he was studying cello and piano and could have become a big classic music star. But then things changed and now – by the age of 19 – he already has his second musical career going. It was just a short while ago that he discovered Ableton – the electronic music production tool – and in just a bit more than one year he became one of the biggest names in the Deep House remix business. If you watch the number of clicks of his remixes and podcasts on Soundcloud and Youtube you will realize that he has more fans that some of the big pop stars of our times. His remix for Daughter by now has 8 million plays! His version of London Grammar’s “Darling Are You Gonna Leave Me” has more plays than the original version (2 mio) and his own podcasts got listened more than 9 mio times. By now he is probably one of the most looked for German remixers. He just finished his remixes for ZHU, Marlon Roudette and Parov Stelar. And just got remix requests from Rufus, Andreas Moe (The voice of Avicii) and even Lenny Kravitz.

It’s pretty clear: Leon’s life has changed totally within a year: By now he is touring the world as a DJ on the weekends and during the week he is in his studio doing remixes and working on his own first EP that should come out this winter. The career as a classical musician has been changed into an existence as a pop producer and DJ. But can you blame him? His future looks bright – and the doubts of his family over his change of musical orientation have turned into a full support for his new, second indie house life.
