Melbourne-based DJ, event curator and radio presenter, MzRizk, is renowned for her ongoing contributions to Melbourne’s rich cultural and music landscape. Her many projects are a distinct blend of music knowledge, creative diversity and cultural and community engagement. As one of Melbourne’s busiest DJs, MzRizk has supported Australian acts such as Remi and Hiatus Kaiyote; as well as international artists Mos Def, Public Enemy, Jill Scott, The Daptones, John Morales, Bilal, Cody Chestnut, DJ Maseo, Talib Kweli, Jurassic 5 and many more. MzRizk has secured DJ support roles at Womadelaide (with Neneh Cherry jumping on the mic as impromptu MC), Soulfest, International Soul Summit (Atlanta, US), AWME, Glastonbury Festival, Soundwave (Croatia), Big Day Out, Melbourne International Film Festival, Perth Fringe Festival, Darwin Festival and numerous other events across Australia and internationally. Closer to home, as the curator of the extremely successful Block Party and Hip Hop High Tea series, MzRizk uses these events as a platform to showcase emerging and established artists (DJs, MCs, Dancers) to a wider audience. In 2014, even the modern-day King of Block Parties, Dave Chappelle, stopped into a MzRizk Block Party when he was in Melbourne and gave massive props for the quality of MzRizk’s music and event. Her weekly Urban Fervour show on Kiss FM consistently showcases the best local and international jazz, funk, soul, hip hop and global sounds. As the presenter, MzRizk has featured interviews with music luminaries Dee Dee Bridgewater, Richard Bona, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Robert Glasper, José James, and DJ Spooky. As well as Kiss FM, MzRizk is also a regular fixture on both Triple R FM and PBS FM rosters, where she has interviewed artists including Norman Jay MBE and Kutcha Edwards. With the opportunity to bring together Melbourne’s music-loving communities through DJ workshops, venue residencies, festivals, artist support and one-off special events, MzRizk always delivers the hip hop, jazz, soul, funk, disco, boogie and global music goodness.
