A living legend renowned for his electrifying performances, Eddie Palmieri is a titan of Latin jazz.

Skilfully fusing the rhythms of his Puerto Rican heritage with the complexity of his jazz influences – Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver and McCoy Tyner – Palmieri has been blazing new paths for nearly six decades.

Starting out with the orchestras of Eddie Forrester and Tito Rodriguez in the 50s, he founded the seminal band La Perfecta in the 60s, before creating an entirely new sound in the 70s that merged funk, soul and jazz. Palmieri’s lifelong innovation was recognised in 2013 with the National Endowment of the Arts Jazz Master award – the highest honour an American jazz artist can receive.

In turns playful, subtly tender and ferociously brilliant, Palmieri’s charismatic exuberance is matched by a first-rate lineup of leading Latin jazz musicians. Their thrilling solos and exhilarating interplay will light up Hamer Hall and leave you breathless.
